Obituary

Washington Township, OH…..Alvin Lee Milam Ph.D. Age 80, of Washington Township, Ohio, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018.
Al was born in Bedford, Virginia on September 5, 1937, son of the late Eugene Bennett Milam and Ivor Hunt Milam. Al was preceded in death by his brother Marvin Milam, sister Avon Milam Clark, and brother James Milam. Al had a lifetime of accomplishments. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Richmond, Master of Education from Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio, Texas, and a Doctor of Philosophy from The University of Denver. Al served in the United States Air Force for 21 years, retiring as a Major. Following his military service, he was a Junior ROTC instructor and a building principal at Wayne High School. He donated many hours as a volunteer at the National Museum of the United States Air Force, and served a term as president of the Volunteer Advisory Council. Al was an inspiration for all around him because of his faith and cheerful outlook. He believed in the importance of learning and encouraged his students and others to pursue higher education.
He is survived by his wife Patricia, son Douglas, step-son Jeffrey Miller (Michelle), step-daughter Kathryn Miller-Elkon (Otman), and six step-grandchildren; sister Frances Milam Deyerle (Melvin), brothers Rev. Calvin Milam (Mildred) and David Milam (Melissa), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 19, 2018 at Summersett Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. Jason Andrews.
