Hurt………Alvin Thomas Atkinson, age 78 of Hurt died Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at his residence.

Born August 16, 1942 in Halifax County, he was a son of the late William Thomas Atkinson and Fleecie Short Atkinson Bruce.  He was predeceased by his wife, Jean Davis Atkinson.  Mr. Atkinson was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church and he retired from the United States Postal Service.  He was an Army Veteran of Vietnam where he received the Purple Heart.  He enjoyed bird hunting, training dogs, and spending time with his grandson, Corey.

He is survived by one son, Allen Atkinson and wife, Jo Ellen of Hurt; one grandson, Corey Atkinson of Floyd; two great-grandchildren, Carlee and Paisley; one brother Billy Atkinson and wife, Pat of Gretna; and two sisters, Frances Vaughn of Hurt, and Karen Dee and husband, Tim of Blanch, NC.

Per his request no services will be held at this time.  A memorial service for both Alvin and his wife, Jean will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank Centra Home Health and Centra Hospice for the love and care they provided.
