Gretna……….Allie Ramsey Collins, age 87 of 1252 West Gretna Road, Gretna died Monday, August 25, 2014 at his residence.
Born May 21, 1927 in Pittsylvania County he was a son of the late Wade Collins and Octavia Shelton Collins. He was predeceased by a son, Allie (Sonny) Ramsey Collins, Jr.; a grandson, Dillon Collins; three brothers, Rudy Collins, Elton Collins, and Haywood Collins; and two sisters, Lucille Dalton and Agnes Collins. He attended Sheva Church of Christ and was an Army veteran of Korea. Mr. Collins was a carpenter and enjoyed raising tobacco. He also enjoyed hunting, and spending time with his family, especially his great-granddaughter, Layla.
He is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Mary Jane Doss Collins of the residence; three grandchildren, Joshua Wade Collins of Danville, Tracie LeAnn Collins of Gretna, and Carrie Lynn Collins of Danville; one brother, Wayne Collins of Chatham; and one great-granddaughter, Layla Dawn Dalton.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Sheva Church of Christ by Clyde Dalton, Minister and Rev. Curtis English. Burial with Military Honors by the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
