Addison Blease "Scrap" Ward of Hurt, VA passed away Friday, July 8th, 2022 at his home on Sky Blue Acres. Born September 7, 1926, he was the son of the late William Tasewell Ward, Sr. and Etta Hammock Ward.

Scrap was married to his childhood sweetheart, Gladys Brumfield Ward, on March 1, 1947 and celebrated their 75 wedding anniversary this past March. Scrap was a Christian of the Baptist denomination and was a member of Motley Baptist Church for over 50 years. In those 50 years, he served the Lord in many capacities, none more an honor than as a deacon. In addition to his farm, which he operated well into his 80's, he was also a loom mechanic and trainer at B.G.F Industries, retiring after 42 years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Donald Dean Ward, Sr. He was also predeceased by one sister, Wilmoth Dalton and five brothers, W. T., Ernest, Austin, Stuart, and Isaac Ward.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Kyle Ward (Judy) of Forest, VA and Roger Ward (Donna) of Hickory, NC; two daughters, Susie Newman (Howard), and Glenda Queener (Rob) both of Hurt, VA; a daughter-in-law, Wanda Ward of Gretna, VA; one brother, Woodrow Ward (Hilda); one sister, Doris Dearing (Ronnie). He was the loving Papa to eleven grandchildren: Melissa Williams, Kelly Daniel (Wes), Addison Ward (Kim), Bridgett Moon (Patrick), Marcia Bradner, Donnie Ward (Jodi), Howard Newman, Jr., Michelle McNelley, Sarah Thorn (Doug), Erin Johnston (Chris), and Tiffany Giles (Joey); 25 great-grandchildren (and one on the way) and 5 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Pastor Mitch Etheridge and Rev. Joseph Giles. Burial will follow in the Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 11, 2022 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.

The family would also like to extend their deepest appreciation to Valerie Rowland and Centra Hospice for all the care and support they offered over the last few months.
