Stafford…….Aaron (Denny) Landreth Mayhew, age 90 of Stafford died Monday, February 28, 2011 at his residence.
Born January 23, 1921 in Pittsylvania County he was a son of the late Harry Claude Mayhew and Nannie Frances Worley Mayhew. He was predeceased by his wife, Emma Sue Reynolds Mayhew; and two brothers, Hubert Nelson Mayhew Sr., and Lynwood (Pig) Hudson Mayhew. Mr. Mayhew was of the Baptist faith, and a special officer with the Potomac Electric Power Company for twenty five years. He is an Army Veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theatre from 1942 to 1945, and was given the Purple Heart. Mr. Mayhew enjoyed coaching little league baseball, football, and basketball.
He is survived by eleven children, Aaron Roy Mayhew, Brenda Joyce Slack, Kathy Landis Mayhew, Glenn Morris Mayhew, Jacqueline Darlene Mayhew, Debrah Lynn Johnson, Aaron Landreth Mayhew, Jr., Emma Jean Lowe, Harry Lee Mayhew, Martha Nannie Merson, and Christina Elizabeth Reik.
Graveside services will be conducted 12:00 P.M. Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Greenpond Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. R.G. Rowland. Burial with Military Honors by the Virginia National Guard, Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Friday, March 4, 2011 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.
